Specializing in classic Chinese cuisine with a contemporary twist, this beloved eatery at 947 Irving Park Rd consistently draws locals who crave bold, flavorful dishes crafted with care and fresh ingredients.

China Cook’s menu reads like a well-curated tour of Chinese culinary favorites. Their Orange Chicken glistens with a vibrant, tangy glaze that strikes the perfect balance of sweet and zesty, while the Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp dazzles with its crunchy texture and luscious, sweet coating that melts in your mouth. For those seeking a satisfying vegetarian option, the Orange Tofu shines with a bright, flavorful sauce that complements the perfectly crispy tofu cubes. Meaty lovers won’t want to miss the Empress Chicken, a dish known for its succulent pieces enveloped in a savory, slightly sweet sauce that leaves a memorable impression.

The appetizer selection invites exploration and sharing — from the crispy, generously filled Crab Rangoon which customers rave about for its ample, creamy filling, to the addictive Pot Stickers, offered fried or steamed with a delicate wrapper and savory filling. The variety is impressive, featuring everything from classic Pork, Chicken, and Spring Egg Rolls to the mouthwatering Fried Calamari and Fantail Shrimp that crackle with fresh, oceanic flavors. Each bite speaks to quality, with diners frequently noting the freshness of ingredients and well-maintained kitchen practices, such as the careful management of frying oil to ensure crispness without greasiness.

Chef’s specialties like General Tso’s Chicken, Sizzling Seafood Delight, and Kung Pao Triple Delight amplify the experience with their complex layers of taste, from spicy and savory to subtly sweet and tangy.

This place has some of the best Chinese food I have found near Hanover park/streamwood/Bartlett. Mongolian Beef is more traditional (spicy and not sweet, packed with beef, white and green onions and includes the crunchy white noodles). The fried rice with shrimp came with good size shrimp. The crab Rangoon is also packed with filling and you can tell they change their oil frequently. We also enjoyed their beef lo mein and sesame chicken. Their food is not salty, but if you like that add a little salt yourself to bring out a tad more flavor. Don’t plan on dining in, it’s not the greatest atmosphere. It is clean but clearly meant for carry out first.

The food here is generally really good. Great for a quick quality take out, with decent portions. My only grip is not updating their, which maybe temporary change of their normal operating/open for business hours, either on Google or their answering service/machine. A great deal of business for take out is via phone and Google. A simple adjustment on Google or an updated message " we will be closed xyz day(s) returning xyz day and time". Closed dates/ times can be easily adjusted by owner on Google. I did a Google search to check hours. On Google it was listed; Open - 9pm Close. I was driving out of my area and wanted to make sure I could arrive during business hours. I arrived at 6:25pm they were're closed. I called the store, unfortunately there was no answering service or machine, it just rang. I assumed that they must be busy for dinner rush, because they usually are on my visits. The number of new customers and returning customers generated through these searches is valuable to small businesses, heck all businesses. This little consideration of the consumer supporting you or wanting to support; could be a great opportunity to secure that new business on a future visit and maintain a returning customer. PS ... I did notice a few cars passing by while I sat and waited for my for craving of Chinese cuisine to be fulfilled by another restaurant, peering into the store window with look of what's going on?

Crab Rangoon is amazing. They fill them at least three times more than most restaurants. Pot stickers fried are also done well. The honey glazed walnut shrimp is a favorite. It’s very sweet so we usually order it with another dish for balance. We like kung Poa chicken here, but like a little red chili heat added. Same for the hot and sour soup—add some chili and it’s perfect. Moo shu pork is good, make sure to get the plum sauce. Our order, for two, will feed us well for three nights, we like variety and leftovers heat up easily. Two appetizers, soup, and three dishes for $76 \ 3 meals= abt $12 each.
